Amsterdam was one of the cities that I was most excited to visit. It is also one of the cities that surprised me the most. I was originally expecting a quieter city, but instead, I was met with vibrant city full of life and excitement. We were also told to pack for cooler weather and rain, but instead we had hot and sunny days. The city was beautiful with each street lined with canals and thousands of bikers each way you looked. Kapri and I kept joking that our parents were worried about us traveling Europe by ourselves for all the obvious reasons like being taken, pick pocketed etc. We kept laughing and saying that they had no reason to worry about those things, but instead should have been worrying that we were going to be run over by bikes in Amsterdam. I swear that I almost got run over by a bike at least 20x a day hahahaha. There are 800,000 bikes in Amsterdam, and I think I got run over by every single one….multiple times hahahaha.
One of my favorite things we did in Amsterdam, was visiting the Anne Frank Huis. I love history, and it was amazing to see the actually annex that Anne and her family lived in during WWII. If you visit Amsterdam, be sure not to miss it. I also loved walking the De Negen Straatjes, or the Nine Streets. These streets were lined with beautiful vintage stores, designer boutiques, and the cutest cafes. We spent hours just exploring and window shopping. I kept day dreaming about one day opening a shop on these streets. What are your favorite things to do in Amsterdam? I am already planning my trip back and I would love some recommendations.
If you missed my daytrip from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, check it out here!
You will need some good walking/biking shoes in amsterdam. These are some of my favorites I am obsessing over right now!
